BPO’s Thriving During COVID Adversity
posted (May 22, 2020)
The press took the opportunity to engage in some COVID talk with the executives of these major BPO companies which made this donation.

The pandemic has forced many businesses to transition to a work-from-home plan, where employers and employees are using web-portals and video conferencing to remain productive. You'll remember that the Ministry of Education is also concerned that the nation's students are disadvantaged because they have to study from home, using the internet.

Well, the BPOs and their employees are having the opposite experience; their businesses are actually thriving in this COVID-19 world.

Here's how they explained why working from home has actually improved the productivity of their employees:

Sab Badee - CEO, Global Com Limited
"We all got hit with the big storm when COVID was on its way here, and we had to adapt to the way things are right away. We didn't have a choice. It was more a question of survival for the business to keep going. We know that we were gonna have to shift into working from home."

Kevin Herrera - CEO Protel BPO Limited
"We were pleasantly surprised at how well the work-from-home arrangement went so far, for most of us. I think coming back and trying to get back into it, we don't want to be part of the problem. And so, we're taking a very cautious approach in terms of bringing people back."

Rob Johnson - Senior VP, Transparent BPO
"If you were to ask probably most of us 3 months ago, would work from home be successful in Belize? We would probably say no. We wouldn't consider it. We didn't think that the technology existed. We thought that perhaps it would be hard to manage people. The reality is many of the people who we work with don't necessarily have a house where they have a room that they could segregate just to be able to perform their work. But, we were forced to do it, and when we did, we were very pleasantly surprised at how successful it was. We actually found that the work being performed, we're seeing higher levels of quality, and its really across all of our companies. Absenteeism is virtually zero. You know, people are at home. So, they're already at work."

Sab Badee
"We've managed to maintain very well. Our agents are still employed. The majority of agents are still employed."

Rob Johnson
"Our employees are hugely grateful. There's no question that they recognize in many cases, other people in their households who are without jobs because of shutdowns, closures, and slowdowns related to other industries. And they're hugely grateful to keep working and to keep their jobs. And in many cases, they've become the sole provider in their households."
