posted (May 22, 2020)
On Tuesday we told you about the hard time musicians are facing due to COVID-19 and the state of emergency. And tonight Brukdown artist Cocono Bwai, whose legal name is Cecil Jenkins has fallen on even harder times after being charged for what is quickly becoming the most common state of emergency crimes, failure to wear a mask.

It's the daily fear of every Belizean and one that the artist whose government name is Cecil Jenkins faced head on this morning on a routine trip to refill a 5-gallon water bottle. Jenkins admits that he left the house without a mask and says that he was spotted by an officer on patrol in a police mobile but he says the officer said nothing to him and drove off. Once Jenkins had entered the store's compound he realized what had happened and quickly put on the mask that he had in his pocket. He then refilled his bottle and left the store but it was on his walk home that the officer circled back on him.

Cocono Bwai was informed that he'd been spotted without a mask, the officer exited the mobile and informed him that he was under arrest asking whether or not he wanted to call a lawyer. According to the Artist, he was in fact wearing his mask at the time of his arrest and therefore told the officer that he won't be pleading guilty.

Cecil Jenkins will appear in court on July 8th.
