Empty COVID Beds is
posted (May 22, 2020)
In these parts, people - especially politicians - are fond of quoting that line from the national anthem, that Belize has wealth untold. Well, that's a little bit simplistic, but one thing of great value that we do have right now is something the whole world would want - more valuable than oil, or precious stone. And that's empty hospital beds in COVID-19 units. Now, that may sound odd, but all over the world, hospitals are overrun with COVID-19 cases, and often times the doctors and nurses don't have anywhere to put the sick not to mention the dead.

But, this picture of the empty COVID 19 unit at the Northern Regional Hospital makes it vividly clear just how lucky Belize is. Director of Health Services Marvin Manzanero posted it on his office page and he underscored the importance in yesterday's "Ask The Experts":

Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Service
"Yesterday in our social media post I did show an empty hospital space inside the northern regional hospital that has 6 beds for Covid-19 specific cases with their testing booth, with their flu clinic. At time I was there was nobody at the clinic. Even they have a doctor and 2 nurses that were there, so that needs to continue to be prepared. Those facilities will remain there for whenever we have any potential cases. Corozal also has 8 beds now."
