Council Rotating 460 Employees To Keep Them Paid
posted (May 26, 2020)
An essential element of the council's plan is keeping their 460 staffers paid. Right now they are working on a bi-weekly, rotational basis to take home 75% of their usual pay. Here's how the mayor broke down the hierarchy of the City Council's salary sacrifices.

Bernard Wagner, Mayor
"We know that many of our staff are excited and want to come back to work, but we continue to be responsible and we want to look at the numbers and really analyze the numbers before we make any decision in bringing back our full staff. Last time we spoke our staff continues to do a rotational basis, so keep all those 460 staff we came together and we say listen for 2 week the staff will work for 2 weeks fully, so you will get your full 2 weeks pay and then bringing the other person and that one go on 50%, so at the end of the day the staff essentially is getting 75% of their monthly pay. The managers we met with them and they say alright they are willing to do 66% of their monthly salary. As the councilors and the mayor we continue to be at the bottom level. We continue to insist that we be at the bottom level and that is why we are now at 50%."
