posted (May 27, 2020)
Crowds gathered in San Pedro this morning, waiting in line to receive grocery bags donated through a collaboration between Island City store and the Chinese Community.

It's much-needed relief for a job market devastated by the total shutdown of international tourism. And in the midst of it, all the San Pedro Sun's Dion Vansen spoke to Island City representative Seleni Paz who says it's an honor to serve customers in bad times as well as in good.

"A lot of people lost their jobs, a lot of people are like they have to go home and they are not having food in their home. So the Chinese community together with island City gathered together to donate 1,200 grocery bags to the people in need, as you can see there are a lot of people here trying to get a grocery bag because they are in need since they lost their jobs."

"We were working with the town council cause the town council we gave 1000 tickets to the town council and also the church. They were in charge of getting the people in need and we are just giving out the bags."

"For us for the shop for Island City it's an honor. We are giving out a lot of things to the people and we always appreciate them because they are our customers and they are always welcome. We are always willing to help those people who are in need."
