Face Masks, Not Bandit Masks
posted (May 29, 2020)
Part of the difficulty in identifying the man who murdered Xinwu Zhu is the fact that his face was completely covered by a mask - the kind made of a shirt wrapped around the face. The comp ol says that is illegal:

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"I heard the report when Love FM ask the Prime Minister a question today at the press brief and the Prime Minister answer was right on point in the sense that the issue of wearing face mask is a health issue and it is a decision that the government has taken with a view to protect the people of the this country from contracting this deadly virus and so we cannot in the face of that just abruptly say that we must stop wear face mask because it is contributing to crime. I do believe that yes it is a matter for the police to find a way to address the issue and I have given directives to my officers that once it is that we should come across an individual who is wearing a face mask that covers his entire face, and on top of that a cap, that we must see who is behind that mask and so the police will be stopping you once it is that you are dress to that extent where your total identity is being concealed by the mask. And so I want to use this opportunity to just inform the Belizean people that there is no need to have your entire face cover with a mask. It is only to cover your mouth and nose and if it is that you choose a mask to cover your entire face and plus wear a cap on top of it, do not expect that the police will just allow you to pass. You will be stopped, searched, you will be ask to take off the mask and the cap so that the police can see exactly who you are."
