And while Saldivar said he would need a few thousand more words to elaborate on the details, for him, the economic reality facing Belize at this time is stark:

"I will close by saying this: we can't make Covid kill us, because if we make Covid kills us - if we do what we are doing in terms of closing down forever, we can't close down forever because we will starve, so we've got to find a way to live with Covid if that is going to stay for another 6-8 months - we cannot keep our country closed for 8 months, we can't afford it so the health officials has to come up with recommendations if they are, if they aren't then God help us."
