Belize Caught With COVID In US Detention Center
posted (June 1, 2020)
Reports out of the US from this weekend are that a Belizean immigrant being held in custody at a federal detention center has tested positive for the coronavirus.

The identity of Belizean has not been disclosed, but the person is described as a 38-year-old, who is being held at the detention center in the California desert city of Adelanto. The Belizean has been quarantined and is currently receiving medical care. All those who have come in contact with this immigrant are being monitored for symptoms, in accordance with the guidelines from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

It's significant news in the US because the virus is currently spreading through immigration detention centers all across the country. As of May 13th, just under 26,000 people were detained in the different centers. Approximately 2,781 detainees have been tested and 51% were positive.

It is unclear if and when this 38-year-old Belizean may be deported back to Belize.
