UDP Not Fretting About Leadership
posted (June 2, 2020)
And while the tourism leaders are sounding drums of desperation, on the political front, the UDP rank and file is also getting antsy. Yesterday, you saw short lived leader John Saldivar openly campaigning for another bite at the leadership cherry.

And that made us ask, when will the UDP elect a successor to Dean Barrow, who only has 5 months left in this term? As Chairman of the UDP, Mike Peyrefitte said politics is not a priority right now:

Jules Vasquez
"Is there some urgency now accumulating on the part of the UDP to say we need to have our leadership convention and put a leader in position for the quickly fast approaching election?"

Voice of: Michael Peyrefitte, Attorney General
"We have put politics on the backburner, because of the physical health of Belizeans and the health of the economy right now. Those are the 2 primary focusses that we have. Naturally, we are a political party, November is slated for the next elections to be held, selecting new leader and getting ready for that election coming up we will be ready for that. We will have our leader; we will have our party battle-ready for the next elections. That we are not worried about. That will come with time. We believe that we have enough time to select a new leader. We believe we have enough time to get ready for the next general elections."
