Five Mexican fishermen are detained at a quarantine Centre in Corozal after the Coast Guard caught them doing illegal fishing in Belize's waters yesterday. The men who are from the southern coast of Quintana Roo had been reported missing since Saturday - but they weren't missing at all, they had entered Belize illegally and were in good health detained by the Coast Guard. Mexican media reports say they were caught with an unregistered boat and with several empty gasoline drums. The Belize Coast Guard would only confirmed their capture, and added that they will be quarantined for 14 days.
Now, the case bears watching because you may recall that last month, 3fishermen from Xcalak were detained for illegal fishing in the Bacalar Chico reserve, but they easily escaped from the same ITVET quarantine area in Corozal.
