An Alley At War With Cops
posted (June 2, 2020)
Over the weekend 78 Belizeans were charged with the state of emergency offense of breaking curfew. You might ask yourself how and under what circumstances people get charged with such an avoidable offense; and one that carries a heavy fine.

But last night Doyle Palacio, a resident of North Creek Alley managed to incur that fine not just for himself but for his entire family after a series of events that, according to the family, began with Doyle's after curfew decision to wash his car. Cherisse Halsall walked down the alley this morning for a rainy re-cap of a community disturbance and alleged police brutality.

There was a ruckus in the North Creek alley last night after the cops arrested

Doyle Delbert Palacio for allegedly washing his car on the street after curfew. That's when his family got involved.

"My daughter-in-law and my neighbor called out saying they were beating down my son over there. While I see they have my son, choking my son in the back of the police vehicle."

"I had my two hands up then they told me to move from there and I said I'm not moving from here, I live here. So all that you could see the man just fired off shots. I didn't move. I stood up right where I was trying to feel if any part of me was burning me."

"And then the other brother was across here with their friends just you know hanging out bicing it taking their little task so you know the blood was up and when he saw them taking advantage of his brother and that, you know that's what started the whole scenario."

"We went back inside, came back inside now and my son hollered dad take the key out of the vehicle. So I decided to go back over there me and my daughter, I didn't walk around you know right across the canal. They came right around and said you know, you're out past the hour. So they detained us, took us to the place, and charged us."

It seems that after the arrests of the Palacio family, the cops tore through this alley very familiar to law enforcement searching all residents.

Idolly Pollard is Palacio's neighbor, she says that she was physically assaulted not once but twice during last night's ordeal.

She's also doing what she can for her dog after police pelted him with rubber bullets.

"When I was coming from the shop I heard pow, pow, pow, pow that's all I heard so my friend and I who were coming from the shop said let's peep on the canal bridge to see where the bullets are coming from. The police aimed the guns that way so we had to run back through the alley. When we came through the alley they told us we couldn't pass that way because they were shooting over this side here and they were live rounds, they weren't rubber bullets."

"I went and I told those ones don't come out because police are chancing people here. They went to every house and they brought out every gentleman and everybody out of the house. They chanced them, beat them, alright I'm in there and I told the office please don't shoot because they came pointing their guns and my house is full of children. I came outside to explain to the other officer what was happening. At that moment one of them hit me in my chest and choked me, I wanted to pass out."

"I was trying to try and catch my breath to go inside the other one, he lives right by the lane near us, he slapped me down because you see my face still has a bruise and then my entire body hurts because he's a man and he slapped me down and their big and hefty. We have a lady back here an ageable lady they told the lady shut up old **BITCH** before I stamp you effing down."

And how is Doyle today? His father says he suffered a beatdown at the hands of the police.

"He's properly bruised up his mother is right there now to make sure that they get him back afloat to the hospital."

And while his son remains in custody, Patrick Doyle had some words of caution for the police.

"They have to be careful because things will get more serious, they have to be careful, that was too much force they pushed there, too much force. They don't know the temper of these guys, they don't know the temper of these guys and what it takes to calm them and keep them cool. They're lucky it only rocks they got because these guys have things just like what they have on their waist, that they wouldn't believe."

4 members of the Palacio Family including a father, daughter, and two brothers were charged with the State Of Emergency offense of breaking curfew.
