They Caught A Courier
posted (June 2, 2020)
As the curfew clamps down on personal movement for unspecified purposes, drug paddlers have to find new ways to move their product. And, one of them tried to use a courier service to Caye Caulker - which put two men before the court today.

35 year old Elmer Leonel Eck, a Deckman of Caye Caulker along with 39 year old Barney Aquilez Lopez, a Loader of Caledonia Village who work for RCD cargo service were caught by Special Branch with 2.2 kilos, or about 5 pounds of weed in their cargo truck yesterday. This happened at the corner of Central American and Jane Usher Boulevard.

Today in court they were read a single charge of possession of a control drugs with intent to supply another person or persons for the purpose of drug trafficking.

They both plead not guilty and Eck explained that he got four calls from a taxi man about dropping off a package into the dock.

The package he picked up was destined for Caye Caulker but according to Eck, he had no knowledge of what was in the package.

With his explanation, Magistrate Palmer entered an equivocal plead of not guilty on his behalf.

This means that a date will be set for trial in the matter against both men. They were both offered bail of $5,000 each plus one surety of the same amount which they met by 4:00 at the close of court this evening. Both Eck and Lopez are due back in Court #6 on August 10, 2020.
