Schools Warned Not To Charge Exorbitant Graduation Fees
posted (June 8, 2020)
And while parents and the community are being called upon to do their part - schools are also being scolded for sticking to exorbitant graduation fees.

Faber says this is not the time for that:

Hon. Patrick Faber, Minister of Education
"Graduation fee should not be exorbitant, it should be kept to the minimum of what probably the production of what the diploma and a jacket would be. There needs not be any kind of exorbitant kind of graduation ceremony and certainly, those kinds of activities even if the school decides to have them should be optional for the students, so they can decide whether or not they are going to participate if a fee is going to be charged. Our parents, our students, our wider community right now we are facing financial crunches and we simply cannot afford to do that and so the ministry condemns any such action on the part of a school that is doing that and we appeal to them, we join the appeal and if it is you want to give us specific details, contact us on the hotline and we can do our investigations to have a word with the management of such school."

Once concerned parent from Delisle Academy in Dangriga has contacted us to point out that the school is still charging $200.00 dollars for a graduation package, and $85.00 for an economy package - for which the students gets the diploma paper with no case, and a trasncript. We note that such a paper can be printed for less than a dollar.
