Vicious Chopping In San Roman
posted (June 8, 2020)
And from the murder in the south, we report now on violent chopping incident which happened on Saturday evening in the Corozal Village of Santa Clara.

Corozal Police say that at around 6:40 p.m., they were called to the village, where the resident, 34-year-old Ubaldo Rodriguez, was suffering from chop wounds to the head and left foot. About 2 hours later, they received reports from Orange Walk cops that the brothers: 24-year-old Anderson Pech, and 25-year-old Kevin Pech, showed up at the Northern Regional Hospital with injuries of their own. These brothers, who are also from Santa Clara Village. At this time, police believe that they went looking for a fight with Rodriguez, reportedly because of a prior dispute.

They ended up in a quarrel which escalated with the brothers allegedly attacking Rodriguez with a machete; Rodriguez reportedly had to defend himself. Here's what the Head of the National Criminal Investigations Branch had to say about the case a today's press briefing:

ACP Joseph Myvette - Head, NCIB
"On Saturday night, sometime after 8 p.m., police responded to a chopping incident in San Roman Village in the Corozal District. Upon arrival, they were informed that two persons were transported to the Northern Regional, namely Anderson Pech, who had injuries, and one Kevin Pech, who had apparent chop wounds. Both persons are stable. Also, the police were made aware that one Rodriguez, believed to be Obaldo Rodriguez, had also suffered injuries. During the investigation, the police learned that the Pech brothers went to an area where Rodriguez was socializing with others. An argument ensued, and as a result, those persons started beating on Rodriguez, who also received cut wounds. He, in turn, may have inflicted injuries on those persons. The matter is still under investigation at this point. No one has yet been charged."

"Sir, in a situation like that, do the police consider the aggressors as the culprits of a particular crime, if one should take place."

ACP Joseph Myvette
"Well, that will be determined upon the evidence. Yes, and indeed, that will be a factor, that Mr. Rodriguez was somewhere else, apart from where they were, and they were the persons who went to him. That also will be a part of the investigation."

Ubaldo was transported to the Corozal Community Hospital, and later to the Northern Regional Hospital. The Pech brothers have since been treated and released into police custody.
