posted (June 8, 2020)
Later on that same Saturday night, police had to respond to another chopping incident - this one in Belize City on Antelope Street Extension.

This time the victim was identified as 31-year-old Romelia Ical, and she reported to police that she was attacked in front of her children by her common-law husband.

Police told us this morning that this Honduran man is now wanted in what is being treated as a case of domestic violence. Here's more from Senior Superintendent Hilberto Romero:

Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero
"On Saturday, the 6th Day of June 2020, at around 8:40 p.m., police responded to a report of a chopping incident on Antelope Street in Belize City. Upon their arrival, they found Romelia Ical, 31-year-old, with a chop wound to the head. Investigation revealed that she was at home along with her children when she had a domestic dispute with her common-law husband, who proceeded to chop her to the head. She received treatment at the KHMH and is there in a stable condition. The common-law husband has not been found, and we're looking for him at this time."

Reporter
"The husband, you consider him being on the run?"

Sr. Supt Hilberto Romero
"Yes, he's on the run, and we have posted wanted posters for him."

Reporter
"Is he Belizean, sir?"

Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero
"He's a Salvadoran."

As you heard, the cops say that the common-law husband is on the run, and they are considering the possibility that he may abscond. They are trying to capture him before he can leave the country.
