Case #20 Appears, It’s A Belizean Border Jumper
posted (June 9, 2020)
The 20th case of COVID-19 in Belize has been confirmed - and it is a border jumper - but in this case, a Belizean. She is a 22 year old female who was caught entering southern Belize illegally on Sunday - along with a one-year-old child and a 63-year-old female.

Fortunately, there's a new protocol to test everyone coming into the country - whether they entered legally or illegally.

So, all three were swabbed - and, this evening, only her test came back positive. She is reported in good health and is not showing any symptoms at this time. Same for the 63 and one year old who tested negative.

She and her two companions are all in mandatory quarantine in Punta Gorda Town - and will remain there for at least two weeks. Patient #20 will stay in quarantine until it is confirmed by testing that she has shed the virus.

The contact tracing exercise has started. Out of 153 tests conducted in the Toledo District, this is the first positive result.
