Relaxed Regulations, But Don't Relax Too Much
posted (June 11, 2020)

As we told you, the increased freedom for Belizeans comes with the expectation that everyone will maintain the use of masks, social distancing, and moving around with an important purpose. The Attorney General stressed today that public drinking and loitering will not be tolerated by police.

Here are those comments:

Hon. Michael Peyrefitte - Attorney General

"Let's not forget, there are some laws that are in place that make certain activities offenses. They will not change and they will be enforced. You move about with your mask while you are social-distancing but you must be moving with a purpose to do something. Loitering is an offence. Public drinking is an offense. Wandering about without a purpose is an offense. When they say you're lost, you can't play lost. It is an offense. So, not because we are freeing it up and more and more businesses can operate all of a sudden now ten men are in the corner hanging out, drinking; no! It is an offense. You want to drink your liquor? Drink it at home. Still we should be in any public place moving and with a purpose to do something or to go somewhere, to do something specific. We can't be loitering, wandering. Those things are not helpful in trying to fight COVID19, plus they are illegal."
