Can Repatriation Model Be Used At Airports?
posted (June 15, 2020)
We are told reliably that those 6 who arrived by boat were not put in quarantine and there is an effort now to find them. The Dangriga residents reportedly came by boat from Honduras.

And while the problem of border jumping is complex and manifold, Dr. Manzanero sees orderly repatriation as manageable and necessary.

Because of the mandatory quarantine - even if there is a positive test, the risk of infection would be low.

So, could the model used with these repatriates, also be used to re-open the airport to tourist arrivals? Manzanero met with the National Oversight Committee today and we asked what his advice was:

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"In view of what's happening in the US, what is your advice right now about opening the airport to international arrivals?"

Dr. Marvin Manzanero - Director of Health Services
"This week is critical for the US, because you have the 2 weeks after you have done all the riots and that particular situation. That's gives you a brief insight. After the end of this week you can pretty much get the semblance of whether or not that curve - open the airport, we are also following not only what Belize is being pressured to do, but what Jamaica is doing opening up this week. We met last week and no clear answers. Antigua has change their strategies, St. Lucia - so we are learning from what they are doing, because eventually for us it's going to be what mechanism you have in place for when the airport is open. For now, I think the repatriation process is helping us to look at what we have, what mechanism you can improve and have a structure as to how as to how it can happen."
