Earlier we told you about a shooting in San Ignacio,. But there was also a case of maim. 31 year old Isais Estrada lost a hand. It happened on Saturday at around 12:15 in the village of Esperanza. Here's what police had to say about the western maiming claimed to be carried out in self-defense.

"Around 12:52 am San Ignacio police visited the San Ignacio community hospital where they found Estrada 31 years with chop wounds to the head and an amputated left wrist. Investigation revealed that Estrada was at home when he heard someone calling for him. Upon making checks he saw Isais Estrada and a female outside of his yard, a confrontation ensued after which a machete was pulled out and Isais Estrada was chopped to the head and he received an amputated left wrist. An investigation was conducted which led to the arrest of Shay Leal for the crime of maim."

"Mr. Leal, if I'm not mistaken is stating that this was an act of self-defense can you elaborate as to whether or not there was a physical altercation between the two."

"Yes, An investigation was conducted and all the elements were taken into account and at the end of the day we decided to charge Leal for Maim."
