10 Year Old Run Over By Butane Truck
posted (June 17, 2020)
A family in the north is destroyed tonight after their ten-year-old son and nephew was crushed to death in a terrible traffic accident. It happened on a quiet village street when Steven Torres was running an errand, but he never got home. Cherisse Halsall tells us why.

This morning just before 10:00 in Libertad Village, 10 year old Steven Torres was riding this bicycle on one of the village streets, when he was run over.

The culprit is this Lucas Butane truck, driving by 39 year old Yuri Lucas from San Joaquin. The driver says he was overtaking the bicycle just as Torres swerved to dodge a pool of water in the road.

The front of the truck hit him; he fell in its path and was crushed. A relative was among the first responders. She rushed to lift the sheet to see young, Steven, full of life earlier this morning, and now, crushed beyond recognition. The eruption of grief was chilling: The truck was insured, and so far police HAVE NOT DECIDED ON CHARGES

Chester Williams, Commissioner
"I do not know the circumstances so I'm not in a position to say whether or not charges will be brought immediately, or we'll have to send the file to the DPP as we have done in many other cases. So, it's a matter that we have to look at as soon as we have got the facts."

Torres was a Standard 3 student attending the nearby Libertad Methodist School died instantly.

CTV-3 reports that the fatal accident occurred just a stone's throw away from the child's grandmother's house, where he was spending his time this morning.

The family says they believe Steven was hit because the truck was trying to avoid a large mud-hole on the dirt street.

We'll let you know if and when charges are brought against the driver.
