Belizean Zacahary Knox Killed By Brother in Memphis Murder/Suicide
posted (June 17, 2020)
Last night we told you about reports that 23 year old Zachary Knox was killed in the US. Knox made the news in Belize as a 19 year old back in 2016, when he was convicted of shooting after then assonant commissioner of police Chester Williams.

But, after serving 6 months, he apologised to the Commissioner and he went back to the states, where he was from. And that's where he met his demise in Memphis, Tennessee on Monday night in a murder - suicide where his own step brother pulled the trigger.

His sister told us about the young man's terrible end today. She said he had gone home:

Khadeisha Knox, Sister of the deceased
"He's from there. He's originally from the U.S. and he decided he wanted to go back home and he just took the trip and went back home."

"Monday morning 2 o'clock we got a call from my dad stating that he had a dispute with his step-son and they were back and forth and the step-son went outside to his vehicle got his gun, came back inside and fired a shot at my dad, and missed, and caught my brother Zachary and he asked them "Why did you shoot me" and he just fell on the ground and died on the spot. And the boy left, went back to his house and shot himself and killed himself. So we really don't actually know why he did it or what happened or what it conspired to but it just happened like that and the two families are mourning right now."

Cherisse Halsall:
"I imagine when Zachary left Belize you guys thought it would have been a new beginning, a better thing for him?"

Khadeisha Knox, Sister of the deceased
"Yes, we did because he was not really a saint to the community or the society any at all but at the end of the day he went over there and he tried to make better for himself and he was doing better for himself. So it came as a surprise to the family and his friends and everyone who knew him anD showed love to him."

"He was a loving person. He was sweet, he had his little faults, being a person he was a street boy so I won't say that he was any good person, he had his faults at times but everyone he was loved by the community, most people that he was around he showed love to and they showed love back. He was a sweet person always laughing and having people laughing too."

Media reports out of Memphis say the suspect shot the victim after an argument and then killed himself.

Today we spoke with the man that Knox had once shot after, Commissioner Chester Williams. He said he regrets the young man's passing:

Jules Vasquez
"What's your reflection on this? I know that Mr. Knox was a Belizean American and I guess he returned to the US, I am not sure under what circumstances, but do you have any comment on the demise of this young man?"

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Well I must say that it's an u8nfortunate situation. No matter what a person would do to me, I won't wish death on anybody and since the incident occurred Knox had approached me and he sincerely expressed his apology, his dissatisfaction in what he did and we spoke a couple times before he left. I was hoping that when I heard he went to the States, I was hoping that he would have been able do better out there with his family and try to see how he would develop in becoming a better person. It seems to me that was what he wanted and so I was happy for him and so when I got the news yesterday of what transpired with him, it was really sad to have heard of it and I want to extend sincere condolences to his family. At the end of the day he do have people who loved him and they should not be in a position to grieve for having lost him."
