Woman Caught With Five Pounds Weed

Tonight, 44-year-old Maria Antonia Ramirez, a Naturalized Belizean of San Joaquin Village in the Corozal District, is facing the prospect of a drug trafficking charge. That's after the cops caught her trying to board a water taxi with over 5 pounds of marijuana.

At around 9:24 a.m. yesterday, police acted on Special Branch intelligence and conducted a search a water taxi vessel belonging to the San Pedro Belize Express. All passengers and their luggage were searched for illegal drugs, firearms, and ammunition.

That's when they came across Ramirez's bag. Inside, she was carrying 2 parcels of suspected weed, which was covered in saran wrap. Both she and the drugs were escorted to a nearby police station. In her presence, the drugs were weighed, and it was determined that she was attempting to smuggle 2.278 kilos or a little over 5 pounds of marijuana.

She was detained pending charges of possession of controlled drugs with the intent to supply.






Woman Charged For Gun Possession

And while that woman was caught with drugs, in Camalote a woman has been arrested for possession of an unlicensed weapon. The discovery was made earlier today when Police searched the home of Cordia Hernandez. And there inside one of the bedrooms they found a black 9mm pistol loaded with one magazine containing eight live 9 millimeter rounds of ammunition.

Another member of the family who was not present at the time of the search is being sought and will be charged.
