Earlier this week we told you about the drug jet that landed in Mexico,
close to the Rio Hondo, and very close to Belizean territory. It had
been trying to land in Belize, but turned up in Mexico. By the time the
Mexican law enforcement got there, all the drugs were gone, and they
only found another of those old HS-125 jets.
Yesterday the police commissioner told us that they are aware that the
planes keep tracking over Belizean airspace:
Chester Williams - Commissioner of Police
"Yes, we continue to have these tracks coming into our airspace and every
day, every night, sometimes all night, we're up monitoring these flights,
these tracks and it really and truly a tiresome thing in the sense that,
you have to be out there and there are several areas that you have to man
with a view to see if the plane is going to land and intercept, or to deter
them from landing. As much as people may want to think that, there is
little to nothing we are doing to prevent these illicit drug activities,
we're doing a lot and I believe that the actions of the police, the
presence of the police in the different areas across the country was what
forced that plane to have gone over to Mexican side and land."
Jules Vasquez
"Inevitably, a next one the come."
Chester Williams
"We can't stop that fully Jules, like I said even in Guatemala and Mexico,
that has far more resources that we do, it happens there. What makes us
think that with less, we will be able to stop it totally."
