And what hit many Belizeans personally is the report in late April that a shipment of specialised swabs for COVID testing had been held back by US customs.
This kind of dovetailed with reports that the US government was seizing exports of personal protective equipment, respirators, surgical masks, and surgical gloves.
But, the supposed holding back of the swabs was not a seizure; in fact it was just a mix up. The US Chargé got personally involved to clear it up and he told us what happened:
