Dead Newborn’s Body Found Being Dragged Around By Dog
posted (June 22, 2020)
Tonight, Police in the Stann Creek District are investigating a heinous crime where a newborn baby is the victim. It appears that the mother, whose identity is currently unknown, discarded the baby shortly after its birth - and the newborn ended up being carried around by a stray dog.

Yesterday afternoon a villager spotted a stray dog dragging around something odd. He should at the dog - and the stray dropped it. The villager then went over to investigate, and realized that it was a newborn's partially decomposed body with portions of the baby's chest, head, and hand missing.

Police were called in to investigate and told us what they know so far at a press conference held in Belmopan this afternoon:

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch
"On yesterday's date around 5:45pm, Independence Police were called to an area in San Roman Village where they discovered the decomposed remains of a newborn female child, seemingly of Mayan descent. The remains were not complete. As a result, the scene was processed and the remains were removed where a postmortem should currently be underway. An investigation is ongoing at this time and officers are on the ground trying to determine whether or not or whoever is responsible for the newborn being in that area where it was found."

Reporter
"Any details known about the parents?'

ACP Joseph Myvett
"No, not as yet. That's what we are doing on the ground at this time."

Reporter
"Is there a suspicion that neglect may be an involvement in this baby's last few days?"

ACP Joseph Myvett
"Well, ahm I mentioned obviously this was a newborn, so obviously it was disposed of based on what was gathered during the investigation."

There is no post mortem result at this time.
