Drug Plane Suspicions For Lawmen
posted (June 22, 2020)
And while police work to get to find who the mother is, they also want to question two of their own, and 3 BDF soldiers about the possibility that they were getting ready to commit a serious crime.

Over the weekend, Coast Guard found the 5 lawmen and 7 civilians in an area near Santa Marta Village, which is located on the boundary between the Cayo and Stann Creek Districts. They were caught in public at around 3 a.m. in the morning, which is within curfew hours. That by itself is suspicious enough, but the cops want to make absolutely sure that they were not in that area to facilitate the landing of a drug plane.

This afternoon we asked Police Commissioner Chester Williams about those men. Here's how that conversation went:

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"It is a matter where are still looking at. Yes I can confirm that about fifteen persons were detained by Coast Guard in that area. After having interviewed the fifteen individuals, they stated that they were there to fish. We know that indeed that there is a fishing area where they were found and based on the explanation they gave to Coast Guard, Coast Guard released them. They were never brought into custody of the Police. After they were released it was brought to my attention and I have since directed the commander of the Anti Narcotics Unit that we need to re-detain those persons and have them further interviewed as it relates what their activities were in that particular area at that particular time. May I state this detention took place just after three a.m. the morning which again would suggest that there is a breach of curfew so at the very least they ought to have and once re-detained will be charged for breach of curfew. They anti narcotic unit and special branch are going to do the necessary interviews and further investigation. I am not conceding that they were out there to land plane or to facilitate the landing of the plane but we have to ensure that we look at every possibility. And if it is that they were out there doing fishing then that will be okay."
