No COVID Vaccine Coming, Get Used to Masks For Two More Years
posted (June 23, 2020)
And turning back to news related to the coronavirus, today on Ask The Experts the Director of Health Services emphasized that there still is no vaccine for the disease.

According to the DHS, the best medical information on the virus at this time, is that recovered patients don't develop any lasting immunity to the virus. That means that you can catch it a second time, even after your immune system successfully fought it off.

The direct implication of this is that social distancing, and the wearing of masks, will be around for at least 2 years.

Here's how he explained it:

Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services
"There is also no specific vaccine and based on what's happening over the last couple of weeks with what we know of the virus it doesn't seem that we are going to go back to where we were prior to SARS Covid-2 unless there is a vaccine. The recent data seems to suggest that the immunity which means if I become infected, I am not going to produce enough anti-bodies for a sustain period. It would seem to be that it's only going to be for a period of months and after that it will mean that I will be susceptible to a new infection from the same virus. So immunity doesn't seem to be a lifelong immunity and it would seem to follow the pattern of other flu viruses although it can't be compared to other flu viruses because this is more contagious and has a higher case fatality rate. So if that is the case them we could be facing a cyclical element in terms of SARS Covid-2 which means that every year you can have potential cases with all the situations that we now know."
