Belize City Border Jumper COVID Status Soon To Be Known
posted (June 24, 2020)
Last night we told you that the cops had detected another alleged border jumper. This one, a Mexican woman, had made her way to Belize City.

Reports are that the Ministry of Health was tipped off to her presence by a neighbor, prompting them to deploy their Coronavirus Investigative Unit along with a police escort.

But when asked about the incident today the Commissioner of Police said he had yet to receive any such information. But he told us what would be done in such a situation.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"I am not aware of that at all. If they entered the country illegally from the north I don't understand how they would be in Belize City unless if the police would had received information after the fact, meaning that they were not captured when entering the country. In situation like those what will normally happen is that the Ministry of Health would be contacted. They would go and do the relevant interview with a view to establish when these persons came in and to see if they had been exposed to the possibility of contracting the virus. Where that is done and it is discovered that they may have entered illegally or came in contact with persons who may have the potential of having the virus then the Ministry of Health then direct that they would go into quarantine."

7News has been able to confirm that a woman was indeed detained at #46 Mahogany Street yesterday. A resident of that house declined an interview but he told us that the woman has been tested for Coronavirus and is now awaiting those results which are due on Friday.
