Major Flood Mitigation Project Will Re-Shape City Drainage

The press also took the opportunity to ask for an update on the Climate Vulnerability Reduction program.

As we told you, it is a comprehensive flood mitigation plan for Belize that is being funded by the Inter-American Development Bank, and the Government, through the Ministry of Works.

When it is completed, this program should significantly reduce the regular flooding in parts of the City's south-side, near the canals, that occur during the hurricane season.

You'll remember that the project made our newscast last month after residents on Rocky Road complained that the preparatory steps for this upgrade were causing a major fish kill in EAST canal.

Today the mayor laid out the big drainage vision for this IDB funded project:
