PUP Pol to Be Charged For Failure To Give A Blood/Urine Sample
posted (June 30, 2020)
Last night on the news you saw PUP Standard Bearer for Belmopan Oscar Mira talking about the accident he got into on Friday night. Mira says a policeman was sleeping in a car that was parked on the George Price highway at mile 45. Mira says he couldn't avoid rear ending the car

The PUP politician says it was the sleeping cop's fault - but tomorrow Mira is the one going to court. He's going to be arrested and charge for failure to provide a blood or urine sample for testing his alcohol level. Today Mira confirmed to us that he did not give a sample, saying, quote: "I spoke to my attorney as soon as it happened - I was advised not to give a sample and that's what I did."

Well, that's his choice - but it's also an offence and the commissioner of police says he has to answer to the court for it.

But, this morning, before the COMPOL could confirm that Mira did not give a sample, he told the press that anyone rear ending a vehicle was likely not driving with due care and attention:

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"The police officer in question who was in the vehicle sustained severe head injuries and is still in the hospital. While Mr. Mira is saying that the vehicle was parked on the road and he may not have seen it before colliding into it, from a legal perspective that is tantamount to driving without due care and attention. If you are paying attention while driving, you should be able to see an obstacle in front of you at least from reasonable enough distance."

Reporter
"Did Mr. Mira give a sample?"

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"I cannot say at this time if he really did. I will have to check with the police officers and provide that information to you after the press brief."

Reporter
"Was it determined if the officer was indeed sleeping on the side of the road? Because reports suggest that a vehicle that had managed to avoid him had made a report that someone was inside the vehicle possibly sleeping, according to Mr. Mira?"

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Whether or not the officer was sleeping in the vehicle is insignificant. The vehicle was parked. I maintain my position that if you are a diligent driver you will be able to see a vehicle on the road in front of you."

As we noted, since then the commissioner has confirmed that Mira did not give a blood or urine sample and he will be charged for it.

We''ll tell you what happens when Mira goes to court tomorrow.
