Property Taxes For Food In Foam Plates
posted (June 30, 2020)
Lee Mark Chang is threatening to sue the Belize City Council over $18,679.00 owed to his restaurant Chon Saan Palace by the previous Council's administration.

Chang says that an agreement had been made with the council to trade-off property taxes against restaurant orders made between September of 2016 and October of 2017. But to date, that agreement has not been honoured. Chang through his attorney Mikhail Arguelles is now pressing the present council to see if it intends to pay the bill in full or honor the agreed-upon trade-off. Here's what Chang told us earlier today:

We attempted to get a comment from the present City administration as well as their attorney William Lindo none of whom were available.

We did, however, get a comment from former Belize City Mayor Darrel Bradley who told us that he, quote: "Has no specific knowledge of this bill and so no comment on the amount. But it would not have been unusual to have set off arrangements with several trade creditors, including but not only for food. It likewise would not have been unusual for the council to incur a high food bill over a period of 14 months. Just the September 21 parade the council would have fed most of its employees including volunteers and that bill would have been several thousand dollars. This was the same for our Christmas program, Labour for Belize, staff day, meetings, etc."

He continued saying quote: "I don't know that this bill was not cleared. It's kinda surprising that something like this would come up almost three years after I left and just at the time of the convention."
