posted (July 7, 2020)
Tonight, we report on a very usual kidnapping attempt that occurred on the island town of San Pedro. 34-year-old Virgilio Gomez Alverto, a Honduran laborer from the island, has reported to police that 3 men attacked him at his home, and tried to force him onto a boat. When he escaped, the culprits burglarized his home and stole several of his appliances.

Alverto says it all started at 11:00 on Saturday morning, he was at home in the San Mateo Area of San Pedro when 3 familiar men entered his home. One carried a machete, another had a knife, and, the other, a piece of stick.

They beat him, nearly stabbed him, and tried to force him into a boat that was parked nearby in the Lagoon.

Virgilio was able to fight them off and escaped to his wife's Deli.

While he was gone, the culprits cleaned out his house. They stole his washing machine, two televisions, and other items. He reported it to police, and was taken for medical treatment.

Police impounded the boat which Gomez-Alverto said that his attackers were attempting to throw him into. The investigating officer also arrested and charged 29-year-old Ruben Avalos Martinez, 27-year-old Mark Hernandez, and 18-year-old David Lopez, with the offences of attempted kidnapping, burglary, and wounding. Of important note is that all 3 accused persons are residents of the same San Mateo area.
