US Court Says Belizean has to Pay 138 Million in 30 Days
posted (July 7, 2020)
A US District Court in Maryland says a Belizean man has 30 days to find 138.7 million US dollars to pay the Federal Trade Commission or risk jail time. John Usher, the Stann Creek resident who was allegedly the point man for the Sanctuary Belize scam has been found individually liable for multiple violations of the Federal Trade Commission Act. The Federal court found that Usher has formulated, directed, controlled, various fraudulent activities related to the Sanctuary Bay scam. It concludes that Usher willfully controlled and participated in the fraudulent scheme.

The judgement says, quote, "Thus, Usher should be held liable for the complete amount of consumer losses sustained from his…conduct in SBE's deceptive telemarketing and sales practices, which amounts to $138.7 million."

After detailing Usher's involvement in various roles in the scam, the US Court has ordered that, quote, "John Usher must, within thirty (30) days, pay to the Commission one hundred thirty eight million, seven hundred thousand dollars ($138,700,000.00). Consumers paid at least this amount for lots in Sanctuary Belize as a result of John Usher's deceptive…conduct. This amount is, therefore, a compensatory contempt remedy." End of quote.

Usher has refused comments in prior attempts to speak to him - but we're pretty certain he doesn't have 138 million US dollars to pay the court.
