PC Nadir At His Nadir
posted (July 8, 2020)
Nadir Mendoza, he's the police constable who's been on the news plenty of times - accused of various criminal offences, from gun theft, to armed robbery.

And, we're talking gun theft from his own police department at the Precinct Three formation!

He's before the court for that theft, and facing a police tribunal for the same. Plus he has spent two weeks on remand for the armed robbery allegation. Indeed, Mendoza is a man running into a strong headwind when it comes to his police career and his liberty as a fee man.

But, today, after a police tribunal appearance, he said he just couldn't take the humiliation anymore, and came to our newsroom to vent his frustrations with the department - knowing that giving an interview would put him in even more professional jeopardy. He told us why he had to speak out:

Reporter
"On February 7th Darwin Hernandez gets caught allegedly with a gun stolen from the police. It is alleged that he got this gun from you."

Nadir Mendoza
"My answer to that: I would want they go back to that said police who they caught that gun on and find out from him where he got that gun from and who he got it from and when he got it."

Reporter
"Did he get it from you?"

Nadir Mendoza
"He never get any gun from me. I don't know that police officer. How will he get a gun from me when I didn't stole any gun. That was the same firearm that I was charged for. The charge that I have received is with the same serial number of, a black in color bursaton 9mm pro, bearing serial number 60620 and that was the same firearm that the Corozal police have retrieve from that said police officer. Now I am being framed. I feel so bad because my name was tarnish countrywide and worldwide when people believe that I stole gun from the department. To be honest I feel like I am being humiliated."

Reporter
"Where there is smoke there is usually fire."

Nadir Mendoza
"True."

Reporter
"And you got a lot of smoke around your name sir. From before all of this you had an offence. You said it's a mister meaner an allegation against you. Then the thing with the firearm - falsely accused is your claim. Number 3 is the robbery. I'm saying you ever went to Jail Nadir? They have 1,000 men and they are all innocent, what is the difference with you? Everybody at jail say they are innocent."

Nadir Mendoza
"I have proof that I am not guilty of any act. To my perspective, more than half of that Kolbe Foundation innocent, because what they did to me is charge me and send me to Hattieville and I haven't done anything, I haven't commit no crime, no murder, I didn't robbed anyone - there are just allegation and send me to Hattieville, they make I feel like half the jail is innocent, because If they could do me who is one of their own, imagine what they would do the civilians - send them to jail for nothing too."

Reporter
"You have consented to this interview, we've spoken a few times before, but you came here for this interview. You realize that by doing this your career as a lawman is in jeopardy. Sure you realize that."

Nadir Mendoza
"Well I know it's on jeopardy, and I know they will want to penalize me because I came here. I have to speak out because they are taking chance from me. I can't take it anymore. Every time I walk on the road people are watching me like I am a criminal or something. I can't take it anymore. You know what it is for people who use to see me in police uniform and now I am walking they treat me like a piece of trash and don't give me the respect that I deserve. Every time I go to station to sign in, police men are laughing at me and it officers with rank from Corporal go up. How am I supposed to feel?"

Mendoza expects the decision from the tribunal next week.
