In other news, reliable reports to 7News are that Lisa Shoman, a former PUP Foreign Affairs Minister, and a former PUP Senator, is on the way to being appointed as a temporary judge of the Supreme Court.
We are told that Prime Minister Dean Barrow has been looking for suitable candidates and that Shoman and Westmin James were being seriously considered to fill vacant seats in the judiciary. You'll remember Westmin James as a UWI lecturer, and as one of the attorneys who pressed Caleb Orozco's lawsuit against Section 53 of the Criminal Code.
This afternoon, we contacted Attorney General Michael Peyrefitte for confirmation of the reports of Shoman's elevation to the bench.
He told us, quote, "She and James have been appointed for one year… [It] was made official yesterday… [The] GG signed the instrument…" End quote.
