COVID Case Appears in Cayo
posted (July 14, 2020)
There are two more cases of COVID 19 to report tonight - and one of them is concerning.

88 samples were tested today and two came back positive - one a repatriate who flew in last Friday, and, the other, a male in his 50's who showed up at the San Ignacio Community Hospital over the weekend with gastrointestinal symptoms and a loss of sense of taste.

The Director of Health services says this patient was discharged to self-isolate home. He has improved clinically and remains in isolation at home. The DHS says the contact tracing for this last case is currently ongoing. This exercise will try and find out where he got it from since he came in from the community - which is a cause for concern in Cayo.

The other case of the repatriate is not considered a concern, since he went straight into quarantine at a hotel where he remains.

And while there are those new cases, there is also good news with from this latest batch of testing. The 88 samples tested today included some of the contacts from the last 7 cases in the Orange Walk District. All these samples returned negative, but further mapping of these cases is ongoing.
