Vega Won’t Run In OW North
posted (July 14, 2020)
And while the north is going through quite a scare with this COVID situation - there is also political news coming out of Orange Walk. Three term area representative for Orange Walk, Gaspar Vega today announced that he will not seek re-election in Orange Walk North.

In a letter to the Chairman, Vega says, quote, "I wish to inform the Party that I will not be seeking re-election as Area Representative for the Orange Walk North Division…It is my hope that the Party will be able to find a suitable candidate for the Party to continue serving the wonderful people of Orange Walk North." End quote.

It is a shot directly across the bow for Patrick Faber - who was elected as leader on Sunday. Vega is basically saying that he will not serve under Faber. For Vega it is the second time has announced that he will not run again. In the interim he has been an absentee representative, not showing up for a long succession of house meetings.

And while the UDP know has almost no chance of victory in Orange Walk north, we are told there are others in the Barrow Administration who may follow suit. Rumours are that Minister's of State, Corozal Southwest's Dr. Angel Campos, Dangriga's Frank Pawpa Mena, and standard bearer for Corozal Southeast Tony Herrera are also unwilling to serve under Faber.

And Wilfred Elrington has already made it clear that he will not run again.

The next few days will tell how serious they are about walking away.
