A Belizean who lived and worked as a cane cutter in Mexico was found
dead yesterday. 31 year old Efrain Mauricio Barrientos had been missing
for four days when he was found dead in the area where he was
harvesting cane in the Cocoyol area of Mexico, which is not far from
the Rio Hondo along the border of the Orange Walk District and Mexico.
His big sister told CTV-3 that they had not heard from him in a year:
Marcella Tun - Sister of Deceased
"We identified my brother because his wife, they identified the body and
she said that yes it's my brother. He has one year working there, cane
farmer, he's working, it's years that we don't see him because he was
living here at Corozal and after that he gone work on the Mexican side but
we don't know with who or he has some friends there, we don't know nothing
about him, we just received a message today early morning that he was found
was dead and we're in shock. Who would want to do this to him because he
work, he's a good worker and we just want know what happened if the police
there could call us or his wife if she's listening, call me."
The family does not know if foul play was involved. Mexican online
media reports that "At first glance, there were no traces of violence."
