COMPOL Ready For Supreme Court
posted (July 17, 2020)
Last night we told you that Police Corporal Eldon Arzu had won a small victory against the commissioner of Police in the Supreme Court. He convinced the Supreme Court to entertain him in a judicial review claim against the Commissioner.

Today the Commissioner said this it's no big deal, and said it was expected. He notes also that no injunction was granted:

Chester Willams, Commissioner of Belize
"That was expected that the court would have seen that there's a need for the court to determine whether or not the commissioner had the authority to extend the nominations and to extend the date of elections from our standpoint we have good reasons to have done so and it's a matter for the court to determine when the substantive matter is heard whether or not the reasons we have will be justified."

Reporter:
"You do welcome the fact that the court did not accept what they were asking for an endorsement immediately of his slate?"

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Belize
"Exactly and the fact that the court had turned down or denied the injunction speaks volumes to our case and so we're going to see what the outcome is going to be this year."

The first hearing in the judicial review case is set for September 3rd.
