Safety Before Schooling
posted (July 17, 2020)
And while we hope that there are enough cleaning supplies to go around to schools in both urban and rural areas, the fact is, cleaning can only do so much. If there is community spread of the virus in Belize, cleaning won't make it go away, and schools will likely have to be closed. That's what the CEO in the Minister of Education discussed:

Deborah Domingo, CEO, Ministry of Education
"There is to be no sacrifice of lives to get an education. The life comes first and so our challenge and the challenge to managements, to the school community as a whole, is how do we make school as safe as possible. We are also quite mindful that this initial opening may result in closure down the road if things change and there has to be a level of readiness of the part of the school community. Knowing that it is likely that we may have to close schools again if things get really out of hand. Schools should have in hand continuity of learning plan."
