Homeschooling Not As Simple As You Think
posted (July 17, 2020)
And if all that seems a little too much - that's why some parents are saying that they prefer to home school. But, it's not that simple. Babb explained that you need permission and supervision, or you'll be breaking the law:..

Dr. Carol Babb, Chief Education Officer
"I see on facebook a number of parents and others saying that they will homeschool their child. Saying that you will homeschool your child is not enough. There is a procedure that you must follow to homeschool your children. We want the general public to know that once homeschooling is approved, the ministry of education will visit the home and they will assess what is being done if the parent is following the curriculum, if they are sufficient opportunities for the child to be engage. There is a mandatory school age and the mandatory school age is 4-14 years old and if those children are not in school or their parents have not been given permission to homeschool their children, then those children will be considered out of school. If you don't send your children to school, let us know why you are not sending them, why you are not homeschooling them - tell us so that we can support you. It's important for children to get an education. It's their right."
