Second Police Suicide In A Month
posted (July 17, 2020)
On June 18th, we told you about the suicide of 27 year old Police Constable Jerman Millian.

On Wednesday night, another police officer apparently killed himself. 48 year old Police officer Brenton Garcia shot himself to the head and died in his bedroom. A police report says he had arrived home under the influence and stated that he was stressed out.

He is a veteran officer, and today, we asked the commissioner to comment on this second cop suicide in less than a month. He said they were childhood friends:

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Belize
"The passing of Mr. Garcia is a very unfortunate one and we are all saddened by it. I've known Mr. Garcia for a number of years. As a matter a fact we were childhood friends in Dangriga and so it really hit us hard. The reason why it happened, we're hearing all kinds of rumors. I don't want to be guided by rumors. We have no definitive facts as to what may have led him to have done what he did. I wish we would know beforehand so that we could put things in place to avert what had occurred but it has occurred and the best we can do now is to pray for his family, for strength and that the good lord guides them through this very very difficult time."

"He is a very hard worker, a very jovial fellow I must say. In Punta Gorda town he was well-loved by the people of Punta Gorda town. Hardly anything negative said about him."
