posted (July 20, 2020)
As we've told you many of those repatriates are students returning from study abroad programs. And yet, in the midst of the global pandemic, a group of 48 young Belizeans have won scholarships to embark on degree programs in Taiwan.

This morning the Embassy of Taiwan announced its annual orientation in which it's set to offer the highest number of Belizean scholarships to recipients of the Taiwan ICDF and MOFA scholarships since the inception of the programs in 2002.

Among the 33 TaiwanICDF Scholarship recipients, 4 students have been accepted by the School of Medicine for International Students at the I-Shou University (ISU) to pursue a four-year M.D. program (taught in English for Bachelor's Degree). The other 29 recipients will attend their English-taught undergraduate, graduate or Ph.D. programs. Among the 15 Taiwan MOFA Scholarship recipients, 13 students will study Mandarin Chinese in a language Center before their degree programs, and 2 students will attend an English-taught bachelor program of their choice.

To date, 411 Belizeans have accepted scholarships to study in Taiwan with over 100 Belizeans currently enrolled in degree programs. They are expected to return to offer contributions to Belize through their knowledge of various fields such as public health, agriculture, business administration, engineering, communications, and information technology.
