On Monday a pair of voice notes began making the Whatsapp rounds. They were intended for internal police circulation in a group, but they made it out into the public.
And they do not paint the commissioner of police in a flattering light. The messages seem to pit the commissioner against commander of the Special Patrol Unit, ASP Aaron Gamboa.
In the first note Gamboa complains that neither of the two vehicles recently acquired for border patrols through an anonymous donor would ever be assigned to him because the Commissioner quote: "only gives him old vehicles."
In a mocking response, the Commissioner seemed to question Gamboa's state of mind and asks quite frankly whether the ASP is quote "smoking something high grade."
We asked Williams about the voice note this evening but he says they were just in good fun. Here first are those voice notes and then his response:
