CWU Soldiering On: Resist, Resist, Resist
posted (July 24, 2020)
Later on, you'll hear about the government's resolve to exhaust all available legal options to get the terminations reversed.

But, right now the matter is with the CWU - and today, President Mose Hyde said its resolve to resist and reverse the firing of union members is is unbroken by this outcome.

The president told the press this morning that his union's case against the 10% salary reduction and the termination of the 36 employees is currently being prepared.

Evan "Mose" Hyde - President, CWU
"We have committed ourselves as a family, as a union, and as a unit that we are going to resist this blatant assault on the rights of workers to unionize. You must understand that in that sense, this injunction attempt has nothing to do with our core principle that we are objecting to, which is that you came to us and said that you wanted to talk about earnings reductions by 10%. You went ahead with that, without consent. That has not been brought before a tribunal or the courts. You then, in the middle of the dispute over the taking out of that 10% of their earnings, you escalated the assault and turned it into redundancy and termination, in the middle of a dispute. That's another core challenge that you have presented us, and another core assault on the rights of those workers. Essentially, when somehow found 29 of 36 members, and you made the attack on union members, 4 of which are reps, fundamentally, we will challenge the fact that what you did had nothing to do with redundancy. It was all about trying to de-unionize that unit. So, these fights have not been taken; they will be taken. We will resist, resist, resist, resist, and fight what has taken place here."
