Cocaine Plane In Guat Wanted To Land in Belize
posted (July 28, 2020)
A drug plane landed in Guatemala on Sunday morning - with well over a tonne of cocaine.

It's news because it landed so close to Belize. The Commissioner of Belize said it landed in Peten but was circling Belize:

Jules Vasquez
"Is that a plane that you were tracking, were you all aware of that?"

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Of course we were on top of that as well. We had received information that the plane had left South America and was coming our way and again we did what we normally do, deployed. As a matter of fact we had a possible landing spot in Belize where we expect it would have landed, but it came, it flew over and it went into Guatemala where it landed and again our security forces members were out there the entire night monitoring, hoping that it would come our way so we could make a big bust, but I guess they may have smell the rat and they went over to Guatemala. I am told the Guatemalan authority did found the plane, they found the contents, but the persons who were involved in the landing were not apprehended."

The area where it landed is about an hour driving from Belize.
