Major Medical Donation From India

The Government of India has made a very generous donation of a little over half-a-million dollars in medication and equipment to Belize.

It's for the COVID 19 response and though India is struggling to keep the deadly virus in check at home, they decided several weeks ago to share their resources with 27 countries in Latin American and the Caribbean.

In the package to Belize, there are several different types of medical drugs, testing kits, and COVID-related protection gear. This donation also comes with online training for frontline health-care workers in all the recipient countries. The Indian Government wants to aid sister nations by sharing their expertise and experience gathered while fighting the coronavirus so far.

The Donation was handed over to the Ministry of Health today, and here's what they had to say about this show of kindness:

The donated medicines include Hydroxychloroquine, the malaria medication which may or may not help with the coronavirus.

Press reports indicate that the US' National Institute of Health recently abandoned clinical trials of HCQ, reporting that it "was very unlikely to be beneficial to hospitalized patients with COVID-19,"

The Food and Drug Administration has also revoked its emergency use authorization, warning it can cause "heart rhythm problems and other safety issues, including blood and lymph system disorders, kidney injuries and liver problems and failure."
