New Coast Guard Commander For A Year
posted (July 29, 2020)
Captain Elton Bennett assumed command of the Coast Guard on November of last year, but, the news tonight is that he's going on a year's break to pursue his studies.

a release says Captain Bennett will to undertake a year of study at the Royal College of Defence Studies in England from August 2020 to August 2021. The release adds that the training is a "vital component in his professional military education in strategic level studies."

As he leaves, his second in command, Gregory Soberanis takes over as Acting Commandant. Soberanis told us today, quote, I" am truly grateful and humbled to be given the opportunity to command the Coast Guard for a year. The burden of responsibility is one that I take seriously and embrace."

He will be backed up by the Lieutenant Commander Alma Pinelo who will be the Acting Vice Commandant - which may be the highest post ever given - even on an acting basis - to a woman in the armed forces.
