PM Talks Tourism Opening
posted (July 29, 2020)
And, speaking of risks….many in the general public are saying that it is too great a risk to open the airport on August 15th.

That's the considered decision that the Prime Minister made in consultation national oversight committee and Cabinet. It's not popular, but the PM today explained - again - why he feels it is necessary:

Rt. Hon Dean Barrow- Prime Minister
"What we are doing basically is to plant our flag pole in the sand and indicate that we are opened again for business. Fully recognizing that, to repeat, things, visitor flows- I don't even know if it's fair to use the word flows- visit returns will be very much a trickle. I think the industry is also breathing a sigh of relief that at least we are sending signals, some effort to instil confidence. I don't think anybody expects much of a serious incipient recovery before certainly December and perhaps not until January or so of next year."
