Last night, we told you about the senseless murder of 38-year-old Oren Velasquez, the self-made businessman from Ladyville.

On Monday night he and his teenaged son were closing up his business, Breda O's Pizza when 2 armed men jumped the fence and attacked them in an attempt to rob the Pizza shop. Velasquez's family says that assailants moved with extreme violence and intent and that he had to fight them off, in order to save his son's life. In the process, he was shot and killed, and the robbers made off with only $200, money from the day's sales.

Velasquez and his family were known in Ladyville as productive members of the community, and his kindness, and community outreach initiatives for at-risk youths earned the respect and appreciation of his fellow villagers. And last night, they came out in big numbers at the impromptu candle-light vigil, which was held in his honor.

Seen here, residents joined his loved ones on the Ladyville basketball court to send the clear message of their pain and frustration at his tragic loss, due to violent crime.

Here's a small excerpt of the vigil, courtesy video shared on Facebook by his nephew, City Councillor Micah Goodin:

Velasquez's family has made a public plea for cooperation from any witnesses, who may have information that can help police solve his murder.
